365/91 Amazon deal of the day

Yesterday Hubby woke me to tell me the Amazon Deal of the day was the shoes that he has been researching. They were $40 off and they had the color he wanted. I guess it was meant to be; they arrived via FedEx today and he has been wearing them ever since.  Orange and black, they are brighter than any shoes he has ever bought in the past. He is loving them!

365/90 In like a lamb out like a lion

It might be an old wives tale but true to form March came in like a lamb and is leaving us like a lion. It snowed today and stuck to the ground all day long. We are supposed to see the 70’s come Monday, what a roller coaster this winter has been on.

365/89 Q-time with Little Man

CJ loves it when Little Man comes over. She asks me every morning if he is coming over. Well, today she got her wish. She got to spend time with him all by herself, she only had to share him with me.

365/88 Frick and Frack

In the week since my SIL told me they were expecting again I have wanted to tell them so many things. Little Man and his new sister will be about 14 months apart, similar to CJ and Syd.

The most important thing I will share is that our girls are so very close. After Syd became mobile they have played together and looked to each other for enjoyment and support. Things would have been so different for CJ if  she did not have Syd to pal around with and same goes for Syd.

I’ve never had twins so I can’t say if this is like a twin thing but  they are as close as any twins I have seen. We call them Frick and Frack.

365/87 Gaining perspective

Next week will be 1 year since we discovered that Syd’s hearing issue could not be fixed with surgery.  Since then, we have watched her blossom because of the BAHA that she wears.

Every once in a while someone else in the house puts it on and tests it out. I’m all for any of the kids wearing it to gain perspective on how it works and lets their sister hear. It also lets them see the limitations that Syd faces as the BAHA does not give her perfect hearing.

The consensus: The loudest sound at the moment is the one she hears and she doesn’t have a good sense of which direction it comes from. That said, we’re grateful for the help it does provide and for the effort Syd has put into wearing it.

365/86 Angling for a hoop

JD has suddenly gained an interest in basketball. He thinks he might join a league at the community center next winter. Sadly, before we moved, we put our rarely used portable hoop to the road. Now he is angling to get us to buy him a new one. Hubby has instructed him to work on his dribbling for now before we spend any money for a hoop that may get used very rarely after this phase wears thin.

365/85 The official first ride

We took Syd on her first bike ride this afternoon. We went about 1 1/2 miles and she pedaled the whole way. She is getting the turning part under control but the coming home part still needs work.

We stopped at a park and let the girls play with the neighbor’s granddaughter for nearly an hour before we started for home. We no sooner got her helmet on and started to turn toward home and she jumped off her bike and booked it the opposite direction!  I had to carry her home screaming again. Hubby carried the bike and picked up the shoes that she kicked off.

I’m hoping that the more we do this the better she will get about wanting to return. I’m thinking she is having so much fun that she does not want it to end.

365/84 New bike

We took Syd to the store to get her a new bike. She has out grown her tricycle {Little man will inherit it}. However, we were not sure how she would take to a new bike {we don’t always know just how she will react to new things}

We took her out of the shopping cart to show her the bike. She hopped on it and started pedaling. She was a bit wobbly at first, but got the pedaling part down very quickly. Thank goodness we had showed her the bike we intended on buying because she rode it straight to the checkouts.  She wasn’t getting off that bike without a fuss.

She thanked the cashier when she scanned the bike and off she went to the parking lot. She made a bee line for the van and only got off to let Dad load it up. She asked us a couple times if the bike was okay on the ride home. When we got home she could not wait to get it out of the van; she waited for the hatch door to go up and then said “bike you okay, I missed you.”

We were impressed at how well she could ride it but I have to give all the credit to ESA for this. The gym is filled with bikes and trikes for the kids to ride during gym time and Syd has had a lot of practice there.

365/83 The artist

All the preschools in the area made a picture after listening to a book. CJ’s class was read It looked like Spilt milk by Charles Shaw. They then created art to hang at the county library.

CJ told us that she used string to apply white paint on half the page and then folded it. She was so proud of her picture.

The library’s large children section’s walls are covered in the children’s art work from all over the county. It was very hard to locate CJ even with the map but once we in the right section she knew which one was hers.

365/82 I’m addicted

I just can’t stop making these flowers. Besides the girl’s requesting different colors, it is very relaxing. I can whip a flower together in under an hour if I don’t have to hop up to help the girls.  It is portable; I can make them while waiting for the kids at pick up times. And they are just pretty!

365/81 My chauffer

Now that the weather is warmer JD is thrilled to be driving again. He was skittish of the slush and snow. He also is eager now to take the next class in driver training but has failed to drive 50 hours as of yet. It will take many trips to and from school pick up to equal 50 hours. I think he needs a road trip with dad ASAP.

365/80 ribbon flowers

I was searching for a fabric flower I could make to cover a small stain on a Syd’s Easter dress from last year. I was thinking of taking it to a resale store or selling it on Ebay and the little stain was a problem.

The pattern I purchased is called Knotted Chrysanthemum. I don’t know that it will be the right flower for the dress but it does make very impressive flowers for the girl’s hair! Both CJ and MJ wore them in their hair today.

365/79 Spring Cleaning

The gutters and the bushes needed a bit of tiding after the odd little winter we have had. Hubby attempted to clean the gutter with the leaf blower but that was not as effective as he had hoped. Back to the drawing board…
JD thought when I said pick up the sticks it meant he could just toss them over the fence. When I caught him he tried to pass it off as “did you just see that, the stick is caught in the branches so it is not in the yard nor is it over the fence.” Maybe he should be a lawyer….

365/78 Grillin’

With all this hot weather the grill has been calling me. I broke down and grilled burgers infused with green onions and pepper jack cheese. Yummy!

365/77 a long hot day IN MARCH!

We are a sick family today; CJ is nearly recovered, just mild coughing and runny nose remain. Syd is about at the peak of the sickness {feverish and tired}. Hubby just came down with it early this morning. He had to miss his 10K run in Clare. {fingers are crossed that it stops here}

The other 3 of us enjoyed the wonderfully hot March day. Next week will be about half this hot so we better soak it up while we can.

365/76 Big News Again

My brother and SIL had  surprising news to share with us this week…. She is expecting a little girl mid-summer. We can not be more thrilled for them. This will make Little Man and Baby Girl around 14 months apart!

365/75 my little helper

CJ is feeling slightly better. The fever is coming and going now and the coughing is mainly at night. She is not healed completely but is feeling better today.

I think she must be bored though, she wanted so badly to help me unload the dishwasher. She even let me sanitize her hand twice before she could start.

365/74 Fever, cough & runny nose

CJ has had a runny nose for the last 48 hours and been coughing for the last 24 hours or so. This morning she woke with a low grade fever. Now she is feverish, coughing with a drippy nose.

She keeps telling me she doesn’t feel well. Is it a cold or maybe the flu? I’m not sure but is certainly calls for a PJ day for her.

365/73 A little fluke?

With Hubby working longer hours we are grateful of the time change and the wonderful weather. It has allowed us to spend a bit more time outside together.

He got home at 6ish and we went out for a run/ride before he had an 8-10pm meeting and took over our bedroom as his workspace.

365/72 Track has started!

Today track started and JD is pumped! The distance coaches “had heard of him” and were eager to meet him. They called him “The Freshman”. They said that if he has the mind set they will get him under a 5 minute mile. I guess it is all up to him…….

365/71 What a day!

The weather was so nice today! Hubby and I rode/ran 15 miles this afternoon. I rode my bike and he ran, in case you were wondering.

365/70 I love see things like this

I just love it when I walk in and see the girls sitting on the bed “reading” together.

365/69 It was fun until we had to leave

We got invited to a play date at McD’s.  My first thought was Hubby should take CJ while Syd and I would skip it. I did not know how she would do with the heights and I was not going to go in with her. But I took her anyway. She loved it! So much so she did not want to leave. We played there for an hour and a half {I was afraid to tell her it was time to go}.

When we could stay no longer, the screaming started. After getting her to come down the slide I wrestled her into her coat and carried her screaming through the restaurant like a football.  She screamed the whole way home {thankfully we live very close}!

365/68 entertaining

MJ’s school has been closed for 2 days because of a suspicious fire in the one of the classroom in the morning on Wednesday. She was bummed yesterday but today she is loving being off thanks to Little Man.

He stayed with us for a couple hours this morning and MJ had a ball entertaining him.

365/67 20 minute + 5 years

20 minutes and 5 years is how long it took me to repair my brother’s quilt! I know, I know I’m schmoe! In my defense my sewing machine was less than useable and we moved. {lame, I know}

But in all honesty I could have borrowed my mom’s machine {which I did to sew my curtains last winter} and even though I moved I always knew where this quilt was and even had the fabric I was planning on using stored with it. So those are very lame excuses!

I just thought it was going to be harder than it actually was. Let’s see; are there other projects that have fallen by the wayside because of this same reason?  Yep, I could name a few……

365/66 Newest Love

I bought the Keurig as a sort of bribe for JD. He and Hubby were having the hardest time in the mornings. JD was making Hubby late most everyday and there was  a lot of excuses and yelling in the mornings.

I know JD likes fancy coffees so this seemed like a perfect solution. If he gets up 1 hour and 15 minute before his dad wants to leave he could make a drink {usually a hot chocolate} in the morning.

It has been a month and so far so good; some days are better then others.

The best part is the rest of us have been enjoying hot tea and hot chocolate as well. A win/win for all.

365/65 The golden hour

Hubby has a near love/hate relationship with Ruby. When she is calm she is a great dog. But when she is excited, bored or hungry she can be a down right pain in the neck. She is at her worst when the household is in chaos {that is a large portion of everyday.}

But in the evenings, after the girls go to bed and we are just relaxing on the couch; she is quiet, loving and calm. I guess we all have our golden hour.

365/64 Yummy smelling

This afternoon our house smelled simply yummy!  MJ was making banana bread. She has been in the mood to bake and we had bananas going mushy so it was the perfect combo.

The first loaf was gone before it cooled.

365/63 The new and improved…

We are dog sitting the cousins this weekend. Old Bailey showed up skinny and she no longer snores like a lumber jack when she sleeps. This is great news because she sleeps in our bed with her head on our pillows. She is half blind and half deaf and the steps are more of a challenge for her but she still knows when you are opening a granola bar.

365/62 It’s a wonder…

It is a wonder that I get any sleep at all. Syd ends up in our bed 99.9% of the time. The whole time she is in bed with us she has to be touching me. If she wakes even a little and is not in direct contact with me, she reaches out and checks to see if I’m there.
This morning I woke with her fingers entwined in my hair. I know Hubby gets her feet in his back most of the time but I don’t think he minds; he knows this stage will not last forever. I just hope I can get a full night sleep before I turn 40.

365/61 Track season is just around the corner

JD is gearing up for the upcoming track season. Practice starts in just a couple weeks. Runner's Performance Store had a team night for the team and JD needed new shoes {when will his feet stop growing?}. He talked Hubby into getting him spikes also. JD thinks the spikes will shave seconds off his time; we’ll just have to wait and see if they were a good buy.
