365/31 Kindergarten bound

It is official, CJ will be an all day kindergartener come September. We had some concerns about whether we should send her to a Young fives program instead of Kindergarten {Actually Hubby was more on the fence than I}.

In our county young fives is only in private schools unlike our old county which provided it free to the public. I was not eager to shell out more money for private school for another year.

After the informational meeting tonight we talked with one of the the kindergarten teachers and she thinks that waiting the extra year will not help her. Might as well get her in there and start learning. If she needs to she could always repeat kindergarten.

Our biggest concern is that Syd seems to know more alphabet than CJ. We don’t want CJ to be behind the majority of her class. But the teacher assured us that she gets kids that don’t know their alphabet to kids that can read on day one and everything in between. “We are here to teach so let us teach her.”

365/30 Setting the table

While I made dinner tonight Syd decided she should set the table for me. The only thing she could reach was the silverware.

Guess what came home in Syd’s backpack today from school… a pamphlet on Norovirus and how to prevent getting it. A little late for us, but I did learn that you are contagious for up to 3 WEEKS! Yikes this is awful.

365/29 Norovirus casualty

I have disliked the carpet in the main bath since we moved in. The carpet was glued to the tiled floor beneath which prevented  me from tearing it up long ago. {Deciding exactly what we are going to do with the bathroom  will be greatly impacted by how and when we are going to insult the outer wall.}

Let’s just say that thanks to the Norovirus keeping the carpet was next to impossible. For now we are leaving the gluey tile until the flooring we want comes in {Home Depot special order}

365/28 Mr. Buff (someday, maybe)

JD is trying to make it look easy while exercising.  He hasn’t been running as much the last couple of weeks so I guess he’s been redirecting that energy into working out.  Unfortunately, it was almost 10:00 pm on a Sunday night, not quite the best time to start a workout.

In this picture, he’s doing a stomach crunch while holding a 8 pound weight in his lap, just to make it that much harder.

He was supposed to hold that pose for 2:00 but he didn’t quite last 30 seconds.  Youthful exuberance Smile

At least it’s a constructive activity, go JD!

365/27 The new DQ day

DQ is 27 years old this year and every month on the 27th small Blizzards are $1.27. Hubby is addicted so we do not miss this event, even when some us are recovering from illness. MJ and myself are taking it easy still.  The ice cream may have been a mistake for us but is was tasty the first couple bites.

356/26 ugh! This is awful stuff!

Let’s just say that I would not wish this on my enemies {if I have any}. I think we have the Norovirus in our house. Between trips to the bathroom I checked the CDC’s website and read the symptoms, I could check off each and everyone of them. The pain and cramping being worst symptoms of them all.

This took hold of MJ and myself late last night and kept us both up all night with trips to the bathroom. By 8 or 9 AM we both were exhausted but the throwing up had stopped. Naps and being couch potatoes were about all we could manage for the rest of the day.

Like the hippo pillow? CJ was making me comfortable while she took my photo.

365/25 Just when I though it was over

CJ has lapsed. I thought we were in the clear when the vomiting stopped at 5 am Tuesday morning. She started complaining yesterday afternoon again that she was not feeling well and a low grade fever reappeared late yesterday afternoon. She slept fine last night but woke this morning complaining that her stomach hurt. She was crying and grabbing her stomach on and off all morning. After lunch she threw up and then slept for 3 hours. I’m off to sanitize everything in sight….

365/23 What a surprise!

At 11 pm  when CJ yelled my name I was not expecting her to have thrown up all over herself and bed. But the surprise was when I yelled for Hubby to come help not only did a bleary eyed Hubby show up but JD, spry as could be,  came upstairs to lend a hand as well.

Not only did he help soothe CJ, he stayed on her floor the rest of the night. What a sweet brother. Let’s hope we won’t be up the rest of the night.

365/22 Starting to check things off

Heather has loaned me her sewing machine “until it stops making me want to say bad words” {her words}. I’m grateful as it does not make me want to say bad words and helps me check off #10 on my 40 before 40 list.

Today it has helped me hem a pair of jeans that I have not been able to wear since buying them off EBay {I failed to read the description that said LONG}.

Thank you again Heather for loaning me your machine.

Happily they turned out great and now I have a pair of wearable Gap jeans that I love.

365/21 painting and a party

We painted again all day and then took an evening break to celebrate Grammie’s 60th birthday. {Her birthday is this coming Tuesday}

Grammie had Chili, Sloppy Joes and Chicken noodle soup ready and waiting for us. Amazing considering that she worked all day. {thank goodness for crockpots} We ate, laughed and visited; a very good evening I must say.

Isn’t Little Man getting so big, he is 7 months old now.

365/20 Back at it

We spent the day back at 1770 painting. I think we are seeing the end of the tunnel with the painting. {thank goodness}

The kids have a 4 day weekend so we went up early this morning and spent most of the day painting. JD stayed home to nurse himself back to health with movies and free rein of the kitchen.

365/19 Missing exams

JD was up most of the night throwing up. He stopped vomiting by dawn but felt ill all morning and afternoon. He slept most of the day. Today was the last day of exams so he will be busy when he returns to school catching up.  By the evening he was nearly back to normal even hamming it up for the camera.

365/18 Perpetual Line journals

For Christmas I put together perpetual line journals for JD and MJ. The concept is you write one line each day about your day for the whole year and then you start all over again the next year and the next. Before you know it you will be able to see what you did on January 18 for the last few years.

I used 4x6 index cards, they have 14 lines; that is 14 years worth of journaling. That is 2012-2026! JD will be 30 and MJ will be 28. I can only imagine  how great it will be for them to look back on their teens and twenty with this line journal. Their spouses and children will also enjoy this little peak into their lives. {this is if they keep up with them-so far so good}

I was so excited about their journals that on January 1st I decided that I would also start one for myself. I can’t wait for the lines to start filling up and being able to see each day what I did or felt in years past.

365/17 One year ago today

One year ago today was Syd’s first day at ESA. Boy, how much she changed since that day. She screamed everyday for the first month I took her there. I felt terrible about leaving her for the 3.5 hours. But we both got through it and just look at where we are today.

She loves to go to school now and even is playful with her teachers and paras. The BAHA and ESA has made this last year a great one for Syd.

365/16 Children & Dogs

Children and dogs look the most innocent when they are sleeping. Our Ruby is a big pain when she is awake. She eats toilet paper, napkins, garbage and chews on the girls toys every chance she gets.

But when she is sleeping she is a precious dog. For all her faults she is a part of this chaotic family and our chaos might be a contributing factor in her bad behavior {she is an angel at Brent’s house.}

365/15 He knows it all…

At least he thinks he knows it all. I suppose we all did at 15 but JD seems to have the corner market right now on this. I hate to break it to him but his dad is up for the challenge of a know it all teenager and Hubby can argue with the best of them. Besides the two of them are more alike than either of them realize.

But my only favorite son is sure a good looking know it all and a goofball too.

40 before 40 list

Guess what! I’m going to be 40 this year, December 26th to be exact. I still can’t believe it , I do not feel that old at all {well, okay, maybe on the days that Syd keeps me awake half the night and I just can’t function properly for half the next day}
Anyway I decided that I needed a 40 things to do before I turn 40 list so here I go… in no particular order
1 Participate in LOAD, Lay Out A Day with Lain Ehmen {maybe 2 or 3 times}
   Feb first LOAD! Pages can be seen here or on Flickr

2 Stop drinking Coke Zero daily {actually any pop daily that is}
   Feb 2nd was the first day of no zero for me.
3 Drink more water {I think this will help with #2}
4 Tackle redoing the free sideboard/buffet that I got of Free cycle that is covered in pages from nursery books {I’ll take a picture when I un-bury it from the pile in the garage and you will understand why a I need a massive list to tackle this.}
5 Take monthly “dates” with Hubby; maybe just a walk and dinner downtown
6 Take a family vacation
7 Take a long weekend adult only trip to somewhere
8 Listen to no less than 2 books per month and then DELETE them {my hard drive is getting full!}
9 Potty train Syd {this maybe out of my control-she is stubborn}
10 Start sewing again, just little project for the girls  Pinterest has sparked my interest again
11 Cook more
12 Get 1770 listed-cross my fingers it sells as well
13 Get 1820 finished and listed {this might be giving Hubby the time instead of actual work by me}
14 Take more walks/ bike rides
15 Return emails in a timelier manner {I’m getting worse at this the older I get}
16 Breathe more - yell less {the chaos that is our home will be gone before I know it the older the kids get}
17 Take photo(s) for Christmas card in Mid November instead of mid December
18 Redo yellow dresser in the living room {give it “Legs”}
19 Build something from AnaWhite.com to house my scrapbooks
20 Start and implement a “love” letter book with the kids
21 Have more family dinners even if Hubby is still at work, the kids need it
22 Sit down and read a book to the girls, at least once a day
23 devise a plan to keep my van clean {4 kids make quite a mess in one trip}
24 Take the girls to the library programs over the summer
25 Save the money to buy a Cinch binding machine. {I have wanted one since they came out but just never put money aside for it}
26 Finish my “Me the Abridged Version” book{I took the class in 2010!}
27 Create/Build large art project for the dining room wall
28 Convince Hubby to have a garage sale here this summer {during the city wide sale?}
29 Get a new Family photo taken
30 learn how to calibrate my monitor
  • A work in process for sure. Thank to my brother I have now use a Huey but it still is hit or miss on my screen.
31 Take MJ to the moves at least 3 times {it would be great Q-time for us}
32 Start game night once a month with the older kids
33 Figure out a better way to style the picture ledge in the living room
34 Finish the girls play structure
35 work with a dermatologist to rid myself of the breakouts {nobody wants wrinkles and acne @ 40 I’ll take the wrinkle but the acne has to go!}
  • Visited the Dermatologist in Late January and got Rx’s we will see how they work.
36 Figure out a plan for our recycling, I’m tired of see the large bin overflowing in week 2 of our 4 week rotation}
37 organize the kitchen cupboards
38 Get a spider plant to survive {overcome my black thumb}

39 learn patience, stop letting the little things frustrate me
40. Have a cake with 40 candles to blow out for my birthday… even if I have to bake it myself!

Ha Ha Ha

I will stick a link in the sidebar for quick access to this list if you want to check my progress in the next 11 months. I will be updating the list and adding pictures. {I love to check things off}

365/14 More painting

We have spent yesterday afternoon and this morning painting doors and trim at 1770. We would have painted the rest of the day but we lost power and decided to leave before it got much colder in the house.

We hauled a few doors home to paint and Hubby is painting them while he watches Football in the basement. Maybe we should just bring them all back here, I kind of like him painting them while we do other things….. Just kidding Hubby.

365/13 Finally it looks like January in Michigan

I was beginning to think we were not going to get snow until March or something. But it finally looks like January in Michigan around here! Now the shoveling starts…

365/12 the notes I find

JD has been leaving his clothing on the floor in the bathroom since we moved here. Every morning I would walk in and pick them up and toss them in front of his door. Everyday after school I would ask him not to leave his clothes in the bathroom.

Well I finally got tired of not getting results so for a month I took his clothes that he left on the bathroom floor and hid them away in a drawer.

He never missed them, never asked about them; I got nothing from him. It was rather disappointing. So I asked him if he was still leaving clothes on the bathroom floor every morning. He looked at me and said “I think so, why.” I just smiled and he asked “where are they going.” I told him the I had been keeping them and he suddenly was missing this shirt and that pair of shorts.

I gave him back this huge pile of dirty clothes and told him “I do not want you to leave your dirty clothes on the bathroom floor anymore. The next time I find them there I will throw them away.”

He cleaned up after himself the whole next week… until yesterday morning. I found his clothes on the floor again after he left for school. {I just could not throw them away but he did not have to know that}

When he arrived home I asked him if he had been taking care of his clothes in the mornings. He got a bit panicked and ran to fetch them. But I had removed them and stuffed them under his bed. He paced around huffing and puffing about me not having the right to throw his clothes away, it was his favorite shirt and on and on he ranted.

After 30 minutes of this I could take no more and showed him where they were. I told him this was the last warning next time they would be thrown away.

I found this note on the bathroom floor this morning…

Smarty pants!

365/11 popcorn anytime

It is 10 am and Syd wants popcorn. She could eat popcorn anywhere anytime. It is her favorite snack right now. She will share but not from her bowl, you must have your own bowl and she will put your popcorn in it herself. A bit of control nut…Yes.

365/10 The new routine

IMG_5486Syd has fallen in love with the show Team Umizoomi. The  show plays from 12:00 to 12:25 pm. It ends with Milli, Bot, and Geo doing the “crazy shake” and Syd will not leave the living room until she can do the crazy shake with them.

She has to be at school by 12:30 so to get her there in time I bring their coats and Syd’s backpack to them. We all sit with our coats on waiting to do the crazy shake. When it is over she runs to the back door saying “lets go.”. It is her new routine.

365/9 Things are a changing

Everyday something new is happening is Syd’s world. She is talking more and more, wearing her BAHA for about 12 hours a day, and her tastes are expanding.

First it was suckers, then cookies and now she is drinking juice bags. In this picture she is drinking a Capri Sun that I squeezed into a cup because she squeezes the bags all over the place still.

I think it is the new class that has turned her on to all these new sweet treats. But then again, it might just be that as she hears more her world expands and the new things don’t seem so bad after all.

She still does not like chocolate and that surprises me but that is probably just a matter of time.

365/8 Football Sundays

This may not be the be the crowd of spectators you would expect to see vegging on the couch watching playoff football on a Sunday. But these girls were loving the Q-time with daddy (as was he with his girls). CJ was copying everything Hubby said at the TV and having a good time with it. And when she did not catch all that Hubby said, she would just yell “Go Steelers! Get’em Steelers!” I think they all enjoyed this night {until the Steelers lost in overtime}.

365/7 Prepping to sell

After moving a year and half ago, we are finally able to prep our old house to sell. We’ve had a renter for the last year, which was great for helping pay the mortgage, but we really don’t want to be landlords.  Selling is the best option for us.

The old house needs a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up and entice would-be home buyers. We spent the majority of the day taping and painting trim and 3 doors. All with 4 kids running amuck in an empty house that echoes with each and every step. At this rate, it will probably take us a “month of Sundays” to get the job done, but we will do what we can with the time we have.

365/6 Getting a jump start

I was in the crafty mood today. I have been pinning like crazy on Pintrest lately and it makes me want to get busy creating.

I saw this little pin of a Valentine’s idea

I decide it was the perfect thing for the girls to share with their classes. I made a couple up to see what they would looked like {too eager to wait}. After filling with the zip-top bag with Gold Fish Crackers  I added the Red Swedish fish for a splash of color.

Now I just need to wait 5 weeks to make the rest up and the girls can hand them out.

365/5 A Shave & A haircut 20 bits

This photo shoot was JD’s idea he wanted it to look like the before and after shots you see on TV. The sad/grumpy before and the happy after.

I had to laugh because he did not get his hair washed at the salon and his after looks like he just rolled out of bed. I hope he likes it in the morning after he showers…

365/4 A little foot fight

These two have been in rare form these last few days. Every time I turn around they are messing with each other. It may start out as fun and games but someone usually ends up screaming {CJ is first most of the time}.

This may look to be a fun little game but it quickly turned into a all out blanket tossing war. This time the only one screaming was me though, telling them to knock it off or they were going to bed {empty threat it was like 5ish and that was not going to happen.}

365/3 And we have a Lefty?

All along I assumed Syd was right handed but suddenly she is eating with her left hand and using silverware to do it with {yeah}. She is making less of a mess so, just maybe, she is a lefty and this will solve the messy eating problem once and for all.

I will pass this info on to her teachers and maybe she will not have issues with writing as well.

365/2 last day before normal returns

This is it the last day before everybody returns to work, school and schedules. We took a drive with the girls {they had not left the house in days} and then just lazed around the house.

Bed times return tonight as those alarms will ring loudly in the early AM, for some that will be harder than for others…

Our Milk Consumption 2011

Yes, I counted every gallon of milk we purchased for 2011. {I will not be doing it again this year, once was enough.}

This is the digital Layout that will be going in the Project 356 2011 Album/

milk consumption 2011 12x12 LO copy

365/1 clean slate

After sleeping in this morning, we took all the Christmas stuff down. It was a week later than normal this year and I was ready to have it put away. Now the area looks bare with frames needing to be filled with non holiday prints and stuff needing to be put back in their original location.

For now, I’m basking in the bareness of it all.
