365/250 Part of something bigger

Tonight was “the parent meeting” at the high school for the cross country team.  It was our chance to stock up {spend a lot of money} on sweatshirts, t-shirts, sweatpants, and such, all with the high school logo on the front and our name on the back.

One other item which is a local custom is to purchase a “lolly”, a yard sign which will decorate the front of our house.  Right now, ours is blank but it will soon have our last name and “Cross Country” as that’s the sport that JD is currently in.  In the spring, JD should get an additional board for Track.

There are two rival high schools in the same town so “showing your colors” is a matter of pride.  For us, it symbolizes how happy we are for JD to have this opportunity.  And it helps us feel just a bit more like we’re fitting into the community.

JD is pretty proud as well, he wanted to put the lolly out by the lamppost, where everyone can see it.  We’re leaning more toward keeping it closer to the house so that we’re not completely obnoxious.
