365/273 I love Thursdays

The best thing I love about being in Midland is getting to see my brother and Lu every Thursday!  They pop over just before dance class and Lu gets ready and sometimes grabs a bite but mostly plays with the kids.  I get to talk with my brother face to face and he gets to advise my children on Apps to download and find Wii fixes.  I just love Thursdays:)

365/272 New gadget

As always; when someone get a new gadget it is always at hand for the first few days.  MJ saved her money and we surprised her on her birthday with a new Itouch 4.  She was just a bit shy on the full amount.  It arrived just last weekend and she has been loving it every since.  I have been playing a bit with it as well (I so want an Iphone 4).

I did ask her not to play with it while she walks across the parking lot at the dance studio:)

365/271 A full day

Today the girls had a full day.  Preschool for CJ in the A.M., lunch with Aunt Heather,  a speech evaluation for Syd in the afternoon (more on that below) and finally Daddy returned from his football trip. I snapped a picture of them while they were waiting for the speech therapist to arrive.
092810A full day
Our little Syd has been the quiet one, for the most part.  When she gets mad, boy does she let us know it with her high pitched screams. But the lack of real words has made us concerned so we have called on our local ESA, Educational Service Agency.  Laurie came to talk with us and assessed the situation. She evaluated Syd’s speech to be what a 12-13 month’s would be (Syd is 27 months). She has recommended speech therapy and asked us to get her hearing checked as she failed the hearing test. She has small ear canals and seems to produce a lot of wax so they could be just clogged.  (MJ had to have surgery to fix this same issue a few years back.)  It is possible that Syd can’t hear very well through all the wax and that has lead to her speech delay.  We will see what the audiologist says.  I will keep you all updated on this matter as we gather information from all the resources that have been opened up to us through the ESA.

365/270 Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!!!

Posted by Hubby.  I have a “bucket list” goal to attend a home game at every NFL stadium sometime during my lifetime.  Some good friends and I came up with this goal a few years ago and have tried to go to a different stadium almost every year.

On Monday, we were in Chicago to see the Bears play the Packers on Monday Night Football at historic Soldier Field.

The number of people that go each year varies (7 the 1st year for Green Bay, 3 the 2nd for Pittsburgh, and 5 this year), but it’s always a great experience.

The picture below is from our seats in the “nose bleed” section of the stadium.  All in all though, they were good seats, around the 40 yard line and with a clear view of all the action.

The best part was that we paid face value for the tickets ($85 each).  We went to Chicago without buying tickets ahead of time and had to resort to standing in line at the stadium for leftover tickets.  We stood in line for almost 5 hours and missed almost all of the 1st quarter but it was worth every minute of waiting once we got in.

There’s a lot more that could be said about Chicago, but my Dad always used to say that if you don’t have anything good to say, then don’t say anything.  So, I’ll just let you know that we’ve got 4 down (including Detroit/Ford Field), 28 to go, and we’re already looking forward to next year.

West Coat trip anyone?

365/269 New Trick

Today Syd has learned a new trick.  I’m not crazy about her doing this (think of the things that could go oh so wrong with this move; mommy’s worst fears - a broken neck) but she has tried very hard; regardless of how often I take down and ask her not to do it, she has gotten this far. I blame her acrobatics on having much older siblings. I hope she tires of it real soon.

365/268 Race day and fence posts

JD raced at Delta today.  He finally got to race against his old team but the coaching staff for the Gladwin team has changed. He was a bit bummed not to be able to talk with his old coach.  He raced well and happily came in ahead of his Gladwin peers (his goal). Fleet Feet had a small showing for 8th graders, it was just 2 of them. JD came in 14th and his other team mate came in 12th.  I have no times as of yet, they are not posted on the website.
He has been complaining about his knees hurting him so a visit to the doctor might be in order.  His Uncle Michael told him he is to young to be having knee troubles.

Other things happening in our life today:
Brent helped Hubby drill fence post for the second time.  Last weekend they tried with a 2 man auger and got basically nowhere.  Today they had a hydraulic auger but the clay was tougher than we thought and most hole only got drilled at 2 foot or less.  Next course of action is to rent the Prowler, a bobcat type machine with an auger attachment. It has Hydraulic rotation and downward pressure.  I’ll let you know how  that goes.

365/267 Relaxing

MJ had a to get her toe rechecked today (ingrown toe nail) and I brought the girls along to get their flu shots.  While we were waiting for the doctor CJ climbed up on the exam table with MJ and laid back all relaxed.  I got a chuckle out of it.  She was happy until it was her turn for the shot and then the tears started.

365/266 No fit Today

Syd walked calmly and quietly out of CJ’s preschool this morning!  No screaming!  I could just shout with joy.  I hope this is trend that will continue.  We ran some errands, just her and I.  It was nice to only have one child with me.  When we can home Syd laid on the floor and read books all by herself. I can’t stop smiling, today is a good day.

365/265 Hint of Fall

We are just starting to see our trees turn colors.  So far it is just the tips of the maples in our yard. I’ll be so happy to see our trees in their red fall splendor- until it is time to clean up the leaves that is.  But that is a good job for the kids to do:)

365/264 One week later

It has been one week since my tumble down the stairs and I’m healing, but still have this ugly bruise on my forearm. Thank goodness that it has been cool enough for long sleeves so I don’t have to explain what I did. The bruise is still tender and I seem to bump it often. The center spot, which is almost colorless, had a lump/knot that was extremely tender, but has now gone away.

I have been very careful when wearing sock on the stairs since the fall. I don’t want to repeat this little number again.

365/263 Just that kind of kid

In our family, CJ would be the one labeled most likely to break into spontaneous dance at any given moment. She does not even need music as she makes her own most of the time. She usually does it when she has a skirt on, but even pants will do. She is just a happy, dance for no other reason than she can, kind of kid and we absolutely love her.

365/262 Lazy Sunday

We had a lazy day today, not that we did not accomplish things but rather really had no agenda. After naps we walked down the road and let the girls play in the church playground. They loved it and CJ want to go again “tomorrer please”. I have say I enjoyed today.

P.S. "Tomorrer" is an example of CJ's creative pronunciation of an everyday word.

365/261 Chad Schieber Memorial Race

JD ran his first 5K today.  He did very well, came in 2nd in his age group, 14th overall with a time of 21:54:28.  His cross coach challenged the group to run this race and finish before her and she would give them a surprise.  The coach is a great runner and did not hold back for the kids, she placed 1st in her age group and 22 overall with a time of 23:30:06.  The surprise was lunch on her at a local pizza joint.

JD was disappointed in his running after he seen the beautiful glass awards that the first place finishers received.  He said he would have ran harder if he had only known:)  I told him he should run his best every race no matter what the reward is but, of course, that went in one ear and out the other.

365/260 She is 12 now

Happy Birthday MJ.  She had an eventful day today. Her name was announced at school and a signed was placed on her locker.  She said that so many kids told her happy birthday today, most of them she never met before. (that was a big deal to a newbie to the school).  She visited her doctor, she has a infected toenail. Ingrown but treated with antibiotics only, much to her relief.  She even got her annual flu shot much to her displeasure (moms are so cruel).  And then after opening her birthday present we took her to dinner at Pizza Hut and than watched hot air balloons float across the sky in the mall parking lot with Brent, Heather and Lu.  She enjoyed her day, minus the doctor’s appointment.

091710She is now 12

Her birthday present was not diapers but an purple umbrella (she was complaining just this morning about not have one) and to her surprised we made up the small difference she was lacking and ordered the new Itouch for her.  She has been saving for a refurbished Itouch most all summer and then she found out the new one could take pictures and video and she decided to keep saving for that one instead.

JD is trying to figure out how he can wrangle one from us for Christmas, I told him to get saving and we would see.

365/259 It is a small thing

You don’t much think about your passenger side mirror very much until is gone.  A few weeks back we had our first causality of parking in the garage.  I won’t say who did, but it was not me I don’t want to point fingers:) The bottom line is the mirror got broke and was not very useful anymore so we had to have it replaced.  I never realized how often I looked in this mirror, I really missed the darn thing.  I’m so glad to have it replaced.

365/258 Our view is changing

It has been more than 2 weeks since the neighbor’s tree started to fall apart. After a few calls from myself and the neighbor the city trucks pulled up this afternoon to start the clean up. They removed all the brush from both sides of the road and started to remove the tree.  The large tree has rotted in the center and will be taken completely down.  When it is completed I will post photos of the process.   It will be a big change in our view.

365/257 First day of Preschool

Today was CJ’s first day of Preschool!  She was very nervous about me leaving her there and got very upset about an hour before class started.  As we walked down to the school I talked with her about all the fun thing she was going to get to do but it did not seem to help.  I thought she would never let me leave but once we got there and she seen the My Little Ponies setting out to play with she was fine with me leaving.  She even gave the thumbs up!

091410

Syd on the other hand screamed bloody murder because we would not let her stay!  Hubby was doing his best to control her in the hall and I could hear her in the classroom.  One of the teachers even searched me out to tell that Syd was having a “rough time” Only slightly embarrassing. Syd cried all the way back home and then laid on the hall floor at home and just howled!  She cried until I plopped her in the van to take a trip to Lowe’s.  Let’s hope the next time goes better for Syd.

365/256 I can’t believe it!

I fell down the stairs!  (Stop laughing Brent)  I put the girls down for the night and was walking down. I was on the second step from the top when my socked foot slipped off the front edge of the step and down I went.  I cracked the side of my head, my left hip and my left forearm on the stair treads as I slide down.  Thank goodness the stairs do a 90 degree turn or I would have kept going.  The older kids came running to see if I broke anything and then ran down to Hubby’s office to get him.  Hubby helped me up and then started to lecture me on stair safety (I know, I know but I was not messing around just walking down:)

MJ snapped the POD just as I was whining about my forearm.  I suspect that I will have a nasty bruise on my arm and hip tomorrow but tonight my head is throbbing more than anything else.  Hubby is thinking I might have cracked the bone in my forearm but I think I will wait until morning to see how it feels so far I can move it and put pressure on it but it is slightly swollen and hurts like the devil.

365/255 Still moving stuff

We ran up to Gladwin, (to the “yellow house”, as CJ calls it), to haul more stuff home.  I can’t believe we still have more stuff to bring here!  I can’t even say it is stuff we don’t miss because darn it if I have not needed some screws in the last few weeks and  we did not think to bring them on the first load.  The most important thing we pick up this trip was Hubby’s office chair.  Now I can have mine back, just in time too as my desk area is coming together nicely; now I will no longer be parked at my kitchen counter to use my PC.

365/254 First meet of the season

We were up bright and early today for JD’s first CC meet of the season.  It was a 1.5 mile race on trails at Stratford Woods (Lancer Invitational).  He finished in 9:50, I don’t yet his place but he did get a metal.  The Gladwin girl’s Middle School runners were here so MJ got to visit with her friends but the Gladwin Boys were not so JD  did not race his old team mates. He was bummed but a little relieved at the same time.   He will have to wait until October 2nd for that chance.

091110 First meet of the season

Hubby raced today as well; he was at the Mud Creek Crawl event.  He ran the 10k.  I got to see him finish which was surprise to him. He finished in 55:45 or so:)

365/253 Fence delivery

Home Depot delivered our fence today.  The forklift was too tall to fit inside our garage so we had it put in our driveway.  We are now back to parking outside, at least until we get it installed.  With cross country starting up I don’t know the next full Saturday we will have to devote to fence install but I want to get it done before it gets cold outside!

365/252 Preschool Visit

CJ had a scheduled visit today at her preschool.  She looked so grown up with her backpack on.  I wanted to scoop her up and keep her home with me.  I can’t believe she is going to preschool!  The preschool is close enough that Syd and I can walk her to school.  Now Syd and I can get some one on one time together.  It will be nice to spend time with just Syd;  we don’t get time to ourselves very often.

365/251 Closet space

MJ is my little Miss Organizer. She spends time each day reorganizing her room, tweaking it so to speak:) She has the most closet space of all of us in the house. As per most 1950’s built homes there is a multitude of built-ins all over this house.  The built-ins are a blessing but also a bit of a challenge; they are so deep that things get lost once place inside.  I have compensated for the depth by placing most everything in bins or containers so they can be easily slide out to get to what is the back of the shelves.

395/250 First day of school

Oh the nerves they must have had walking in those doors this morning!  My heart was in my throat as I watched them walk away from the van. New town, new school, not knowing anyone, I was scared for them.  MJ got a cold sore last night, she must have been stressed out more than she showed.  JD was cool about it but I could tell he had butterflies.

Fast forward to 3:30 and they were a buzz with news about the new classes and MJ talked about new friends, JD claims to have been swarmed by girls (the neighbor girl and her friends) at recess so no buys wanted to get near him :) They have favorite teachers already and seemed eager to return.

After dinner I found out JD posted this on Facebook

i miss gladwin....it sucks down here... maybe i can move in with grandma g.....?

I was shocked, he seemed to like it when we talked after school. The fickleness of teens.

365/248 Fish Fry 2010

Yesterday my folks had their annual Fish Fry.  As always it is  great to hang out with my family and loved ones.

The highlight photo (POD) is the result of my nephew, R3, dropping a glob of wet silly string down Uncle Brent's back.  Brent proceeded to chase him down and unload a can of silly string on him.  Sadly I did not get video of the chase and crash but it was a spectacular, acrobatic trip and cartwheel by the pair of them.  R3 tripped into the ditch and Brent was so close to catching him, he did a flip to avoid running over the tumbling  R3.  The poor boy was covered in a healthy dose of sand burrs.  I asked him how he tripped and he told me "I fell on purpose because last year Uncle Brent threw me in the ditch across the road when he caught me."  Uncle Brent is a good sport and takes a great deal of playful abuse from all the nieces and nephews, but he does give as good as he gets.

Here are more shots of the Fish Fry for your viewing pleasure:)

I caught JD working before the Fish Fry started.

I love this photo of CJ that Aunt Heather took

I thought this was a sweet photo of Mike and Carissa

The favorite spot is the swing, but I caught Brent and Heather off guard

Syd had a monopoly on the leis

And last but not least my favorite shot of the day:
MJ was squeezing a water balloon while talking with Uncle Brent and it popped and water sprayed on Brent, completely surprising him.
But my favorite part of the photo is my mom laughing, I love to see her laugh, surprisingly it reminds me of my dad.

365/249 Loving the new Dishwasher

*Sigh* Dishwasher love.  Hubby and I bought a dishwasher tonight.  The one that came with the house was old and loud and the one we brought with us to replace it leaked after we installed it (water poured out the door!)  So off the HD and Lowe's we went.  We bought Frigidaire 2433 from Lowe's, (we got to bring it home, no waiting on delivery, $50 MI Rebate for Energy star saving and until the 8th Lowe's is offering 18 month same as cash)  This thing is really quiet and sleek, the buttons are on the top of the door.  Is it sad that I get so excited about appliances?

Loving the new Dishwasher

Heather, you should get one too I just love it!  Oh, I found a Frog princess towel for CJ tonight at Wally world.

365/247 Scrap space

Oh I'm so excited!  Tonight I started setting up my office & scrapping area.  This huge homemade table/workbench was left by the former homeowners and I thought it would be perfect for scrapping on. It is a solid wood door hinged on the a metal pipe frame, this thing is HEAVY.  I can stand comfortable at it or use a bar stool, I think it will work out great. I have thrown things where they seem logical but I'll have to wait until I scrap in the space to tweek it and make it work better for the way I scrap.

Scrap space

I was planning on having the scrapping room in the laundry room but I just could not stop worrying about all the wet things that happen in the room. Washing machine and the laundry sink mainly, but also all the water pipes over head. Nothing was leaking or spraying water but I was having nightmares about it so I took over the back half of the basement family/play room and under the stairs.  Now if I can keep the girls out of my stuff  I can scrap while the kids play and watch the big screen as well.

365/246 Bailey love

The cousin dogs left us today.  It was only a short stay this time.  CJ and Bailey watched Nick Jr together this morning before they got picked up.  Bailey is a great cuddlier and except for the snoring she is a great napping buddy as well.  She handled the stairs better than I expected but did not enjoy the storm we had last night.  At 2 am I found her trying to crawl under our bed, the only thing that fit was her snout but that that did not stop her, she was shaking the whole bed.

365/245 The aftermath

Wow when I went to sleep last night I did not expect to wake up with branches in the middle of my front lawn!  I was surprised at how many branches were removed from our Maple tree.  The branch that fell was very large and landed right on the Maple tree.  I guess I'm just glad it did not do more damage.  This is the week 2 of city living and I must know, who cleans this up?  Us, Consumer's or the City?  I hope it is not us!  I did gather all the branches and pull them to the curb, hoping to save the grass as much as possible.

The aftermath

365/244 an exciting night

We had a bit of excitement last night.  The neighbor across the street had a very large branch fall and it brought down the power line in front of our house and blocked the road.  We did not lose power but the house kitty corner from us did.  The girls were thrilled to see the fire truck with its flashing lights sitting out in front the house.  I could barely get them in bed.  The activity in front of our house went on until about 2 am.  The tree removal truck came in first and cut the branch down and cleared the road and then 3 Consumer's truck parked out front and the workers ran new lines.  Because of the dogs we were painfully aware of most every movement the workers made.  The dogs thought it was their duty to let us know that there was something going on our front even after we went to bed.

An exciting night

365/243 Horse play

Just before bed we got silly.  We also got loud and Hubby came upstairs from his office to let us know about it.  There are sometimes when you just got to be silly and laugh out loud.
I wonder if moments like this makes JD regret that earlier in the evening he yelled to me that he wants to live with uncle Brent because we have to many rules.  I know it makes regret my come back to him, "Call him up, I'll help ya pack!"  Ugh, I can only tell my mom I'M SO SORRY and you were right I would have one just like me.

 Horse play

On a completely different note:  Notice I'm making progress with the flocked paper removal. I take down about one panel a day and scrub off the paste, only 5.25 panels left.  MJ has been a great help with the scraping and scrubbing.
